Web 2.0 sites can make you rich if you know how to get the right traffic to your website. The big question on your mind is how do you get the right traffic to your website? The answer is to have a contest! That’s right; you should have a contest and let the contestants use Web 2.0 resources to drive traffic to your site.
Web 2.0 – Sit Back and Let Others do the Work
Was it John F. Kennedy of Janet Jackson who said, “ask not what you can do for your country… ask what they have done for you lately?” Or perhaps, it was a mixture of both. The bottom line is you can let other people harness the power of Web 2.0 for you. Have them use web social marketing sites and create mini social marketing campaigns for you.
Here is how it works: First, you need to have a contest that will actually interest the people in your target market. You do not want to have a contest that no one participates in. Try to make the contest fun. Here are some examples of contests you can consider:
- Best 30 second YouTube commercial for your product or service (make sure they submit their video to you for approval prior to being posted, and make it clear only videos posted by you are eligible to win)
- Funniest YouTube video mentioning/using your product or service (again, you need final approval and make sure you have safety rules, etc)
- Best original jingle, poem or song
- Best t-shirt design (or other design)
- Best new slogan or tagline
In essence, the contestants are going to be creating marketing materials for you to use. You should make it clear that you own full rights to anything submitted to the contest and that they can not use or post the information anywhere else.
Web 2.0 – Viral Social Marketing Campaign
A viral social marketing campaign is what every website wants. You can drive scores of targeted traffic to your website. Instead of you racking your brain trying to figure out the next best video, story, etc that will capture the interest of the web, have contestants do it for you.
The way you structure your voting is the key to succeeding with a Web 2.0 viral social marketing campaign. You want to encourage, or better yet, force the contestants to engage in a social marketing campaign on behalf of your website.
Simply stated use social media sites and social bookmarking sites as the voting process. Make sure the videos are embedded on a blog on your site, or directly on your site. Make sure any prose/written material are on your blog or website as well. It is essential that your site be the hub of the contest.
Tell the contestants that the voting works as follows (note the Web 2.0 use):
- Number of video views (YouTube) times the average rating of the video
- The number of Social Bookmarking votes (Digg, StumbleUpon, etc)
- The number of responses to the blog posting (e.g. people being told to post a response like: I a voting for this entry on the contest by (your url here).
Each of these forms of voting will push a contestant to create a social marketing campaign and harness the power of Web 2.0. Chances are they will start by sending a link out to their e-mail distribution list to where they can vote (your website). They will encourage other people to send it out to their distribution lists, etc.
If a contestant has a particularly clever entry the viral campaign can take off even faster and further. The key is you getting it started by prompting the contestants to engage in a social marketing campaign on your behalf that will drive traffic to your site.
Web 2.0 – Web Social Marketing Campaigns – How to Capture the Interest
You know how and why a contest can help your web social marketing campaign. The goal now is to get people interested in your contest. Again, this is when Web 2.0 sites can help. First, you want to have a good prize. The better the prize the more interest there will be and the more effort contestants will put into a web social marketing campaign to try to win the prize.
This is when you consider a co-sponsor. Find someone willing to give a great prize in exchange for an exclusive marketing opportunity with the contestants. The better the prize the more impact this will have on the success of your efforts so take your time to get a great one.
Once you have the contest put together it is time to go to work. Post the contest URL on every blog, forum, and social media site pertaining to your target market. Do an online press release and tell people the prize improves based on the number of contestants (so they push other people to join as well). The key is hit the Web 2.0 sites often and hard in order to get the word out.
If you use Web 2.0 sites to their full potential and have a good prize there is no reason why your contestants will not be able to use effective social media campaigns to drive traffic to your site with virtually no effort on your part. That is the power of Web 2.0.

Danny, before proceeding to sign up for another ‘take your money and run’ business, please share with me your honest experience monetarily with this concept: http://gsupremacy.com/?hop=authorityx.
My husband was downsized from his position of 36 yrs. We moved to a larger city to seek employment. Working a job, that in our society today, doesn’t afford you any loyalties from the company or the income you’re use to receiving.
I want to believe making money via the internet is doable and true, but, of the many ‘widgets’ tried, nothing has done any of what their ads professed.
At your earliest convenience, I would genuinely appreciate your honest reply.
Thank you.
